Corrosion-Resistant Gabion Mesh for Wet and Aggressive Sites
Corrosion-resistant gabion mesh is a purchasing phrase, not a test result. On steel wire it means the coating, galvanized, zinc-aluminium or PVC, is what stands between the steel and the water. On polypropylene composite mesh it means there is no steel wire to rust. This short page says how to read the phrase. The longer explanation is the gabion wire mesh corrosion note. Service life is not a number on this page.

Steel wire still has a coating limit
Zinc, zinc-aluminium and a PVC jacket slow the day the steel is bare. They do not remove it. A scratch, a crack at a bend, salt, a low pH and wet-dry cycles all change the result. Ask which coating, what mass, and what exposure the designer used. Do not accept the words corrosion-resistant as the specification.
Polypropylene is resistant to a different thing
Polypropylene composite gabion mesh does not rust. That is the advantage in wet, salty or some chemical ground. It can still age in UV, creep where it is pulled, abrade, or be the wrong polymer for an oxidising chemical. Ask for the exposure to be named: the liquid, the concentration, the temperature and the time. A generic acid-alkali claim is not that review.
Supplier data for the mesh on this site includes carbon black of at least 2% and mesh tensile strength of at least 30 kN/m under Q/SCKJ 008-2023. Those are product figures. They are not a design life.
Frequently asked questions
Does corrosion-resistant mean maintenance-free?
No. Stone loss, scour, a cut panel and a failed joint still need inspection. The phrase only talks about the rust path, and only if it is true for that mesh.
Will polypropylene resist every acid and alkali?
No. Confirm the chemical, the strength, the temperature and how long the mesh sits in it.
